From writer, to skateboard maker, to teacher, and back again.
For the love.
I used to love blogging. And for a while there I wanted to be a writer. I even had Kelly Slater (the GOAT) retweet one of my articles!
But it wasn’t to last. By a twist of fate, one sunny weekend, a friend and I decided to try and make ourselves a skateboard. That little project led me onto five years of my own business, making skateboards, creating clothing, running workshops, and building a brand. My writing took a backseat as I pursued this hilarious and unique opportunity.

My skateboard building days..
As that chapter drew to a close, I took the most important part (the workshops) into my next pursuit. I realised that teaching people how to do something interesting was incredible, and not only that, it was effective. There was so much learning to be had in these type of projects. So I took a leap and went to University to study Education.
I’m a Teacher now. Though I still get called ‘Jimmy’ by all of my students.
I teach writing sometimes. But I’ve a bit of a mutt, so I also teach Commerce, Geography, Marine Studies, Music, and whatever else needs teaching. I’m also the Wellbeing Coordinator at my school.
For the past couple of years, on top of this, I’ve been creating YouTube videos. The challenge I set for myself this year was to create a YouTube video every two weeks. And so far (to my own surprise) I’ve managed to meet this challenge.

I’ve lost the hair, but gained a voice
This is where the writing has come back in.
As I write scripts for these videos, the ideas have come back. The enthusiasm to read and learn has increased ten-fold. And the want to share this on has exploded.
Which is why I’m here, writing this post. And it’s why I’ll write the next one too.
I’m here to share what I discover about education, learning, psychology, mindfulness, and neuroscience, from the perspective of an inquisitive, creative, and compassionate Teacher.
Catch ya soon.
